Dennis Baer (papa Baer)
When Melissa (first born) was born, he realized how many toxins are really out there, she had some health problems and he went to see a local homeopathic doctor. He continued to learn what can be done to provide healthy food, and has been farming ever since. He has a huge passion for kids, as we the older generations and parents are responsible for our kids, and our kids kids. To be able to have them running around at the play ground, and allowing them to live the life that kids are meant to live!
He loves to be out on the land, he has a special relationship with his cows, anyone who comes to see the farm notices instantly once you get him started on his cows, he wont stop!!! He has a huge commitment for health and well-being for all people, this is why he does what he does.
Melissa Baer
I am the first born (as mentioned above). I always grew up this way, knowing no other way to live. My reality was that we listened to our body and took preventative measures to deal with our health. I raised cattle at a very young age and grew to love the farm. I went off to school at the University of Western Ontario where I studied Business in their Management and Organizational Studies Program. I came home every summer, as I needed that break and I love the farm, I guess I’m a farm girl through and through. I have lived a very blessed life, all of my family is very active and healthy. I am very passionate about what this farming philosophy can do for a community and I have the added benefit of having a business background, so I am able to bring it you!! Im VERY excited for the future of Vibrant Farms.
Laura Baer
Laura works at the Borealis in Guelph (a restaurant committed to local food, and the slow foods movement). She is attending the University of Guelph for her 3rd year, she captains the Gryphons Women’s Soccer team there. She is a bundle of energy, if you want something done – get this girl to do it! Shes got a love for all people and a commitment to what we do on the farm, and what it can mean for people and their health.
Daniel Baer
Dan works on the farm with my dad and also works with Dakon Construction in Kitchener. He loves to build things, he recently came back from several mission trips to New Orleans, Ohio, and West Virginia, where he helped put people back in their homes after major disasters and unfortunate circumstances. He’s a jack of all trades – he’ll build you anything! He is learning the ropes on the farm, and I know I can always depend on him to get it done!
Katherine Baer
Katie is in her last year of highschool, she was a member of the Under 17 Provincial rugby team that won gold at national championships this summer. She is the captain of many teams she plays on (rugby, soccer, volleyball, basketball), she is very active in her student council and school community.
Marylou Shantz
aka “Mamma Baer”, Our mom lives just one road north of the farm where all the “magic” happens, she also lives on a farm, and has a dog (Kramer), She is a huge support for us and what we do, she actually works at Greenwood Wellness clinic, which is owned and operated by Bio-Ag (where we get all our 100% organic mineral)! Our philosophy is in large part due to our up bringing and Mom’s committment to our health!
Massie (the Dog)
Massie is our “guard dog”, he’s been in the family for 15 years, to say he is old, might be an understatment. He can barely see, or hear, but he does his BEST to bark at all cars that come in, they might have already driven up and parked before he notices, but he’ll bark and run over! He loves people, and will follow you till you pet him. He’s a good dog – not sure what hes good for anymore! But we love him!
Bio-Ag Consultants and Distributors and Bast Meats
Bio-Ag is the company that we get all our mineral from, and is behind all that we do and our farming philosophy! They farm the same way we do, and in fact Murray taught my dad how to farm! They have a great team of people working in the office, and offer superior products that are COMPLETELY organic!
Butcher and Abattoir – Elora Road Meats (Steve)
Steve and his staff up at Elora Road meats on Bruce county road 3, just outside of Mild may, have a GREAT operation set up. They do great work with the cuts, they offer vaccuum packaging, and flash freezing, they have the capacity to smoke, and make hotdogs and sausage!! We are VERY excited to be working with them, as they have been certified organic before and have the processes and procedures in place already!!
