Bast Family Farm
Murray Bast

The Bast family is a farm we are very proud to work with. The Bast family would meet up with my parents and the Cressman family, while I was growing up, to regularly discuss what I remember to be health, farming, and all things important.
Murray Bast has been my Naturopath and Homeopath for as long as I can remember. My family started farming the way we do in large part due to the influence of Murray Bast. If there was ever a man who is as quietly passionate (and sometimes not so quietly depending on what day you get him on) about the health of animals and humans and learning how they work together, understanding how we can be better at this whole health and sustainability thing...he is the man. He is a tireless crusader for working with nature naturally. Understanding it first instead of trying to change it.
Murray has developed an entire business focusing on this very thing, helping farmers do better business in a way that works with the earth and also for their pocket books. I remember a book he told me to read when I asked him what books I should be reading (I was no more than 10 at the time). He told me to read a book about sugar, ph and arthritis. I don’t remember the book, but I do remember reading it on the lawn, all day one summer day. I couldn’t put it down and I was quite intrigued that this information was not readily available.
Murray and the Bast family are intensely focused on their farming methods and how they care for the soil, rotate their crops, and care for their herd’s health. They are also angus beef farmers and also closed cow calf farmers. They take great care of the mothers, knowing that is the key to having great offspring. Taking great note of the genetics, and carefully selecting as generations go through the herd to select for superior genetics for not only size and marbling but also for health and robust constitution.
Murray is the go to for many farmers whom we work with and we are very proud to work with Bast Family Farm.
